Hi AJ, I quilt in a variety of ways; sometimes on my domestic, sometimes on my Gracie frame. I use straight lines when the quilt dictates but prefer free motion. I let the quilt tell what it needs and don't worry about perfection. Tami In Denver jimtamiatgmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteHi, AJ! I like to hand quilt my quilts, but when I'm in a hurry I will send them to a longarmer. I have machine quilted a few quilts, but only stitching in the ditch. After I finish a couple of time sensitive projects and set up my studio more conveniently I will be tackling free motion quilting.
ReplyDeleteHi AJ. Nice job on your New York Beauty block. I have a HQ16 that I use to quilt my quilts. If they are small, though, I do it on my regular machine. I do a better job on my regular machine, but I hate wrestling the big quilts through it.
ReplyDeleteI quilt on my regular sewing machine - just straight line quilting!
ReplyDeleteI quilt by checkbook.
ReplyDeleteI used to hand quilt but it took so long! I started machine quilting on my domestic and have been finishing all my quilts that way for awhile.
ReplyDeleteHow do I quilt my quilts? Badly! Tee hee. I'm a machine-quilter all the way. I do love seeing hand-quilting, though. Just don't have the patience to do it myself at this stage of the game. I'm a big fan of the Martinique line; nice giveaway! And your block is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm a machine quilter. Sometimes straight lines, sometimes computer designs from my embroidery machine and sometimes Free Motion Quilting. Thanks for a chance to win. Listen to your podcast all the time :)

I usually machine quilt my own but I've just sent out my first to a longarmer. It was rather big and I didn't feel like wrestling with it! Thanks for the chance to win. Love your podcast.
ReplyDeleteI just use my Bernina free motion foot (love that gadget!) Sometimes I just do straight line quilting if I'm feeling uncreative!
ReplyDeletePlacemats are a wonderful size to practise new to you techniques. Large quilts are more difficult, but I usually quarter the area to quilt and do one section at a time. My results have lots of "design features" but they are improving.
I machine-quilt small quilts at home, large ones on a shop long-arm (rented by the hour at LQS), and hand quilt when I've the time and the desire to "peace-out" while quilting, LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy love is hand quilting but decided it's better for my family to have machine quilted ones than none at all. I quilt all of mine on my Bernina Activa (even queen size). I use the "fluff and stuff" method. My latest discovery is Golden Threads paper that I can needle punch a stencil design on and then stick with Elmer's Glue Dots to the quilt. Sure saves all that marking. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI've just started quilting, so I have only done two quilts. Straight-line (or mostly straight-line) quilting has been my thing, so far.
ReplyDeleteNot very well .. I have been using Leah's tutorials to improve my quilting. I do send anything larger than a laptop to a professional quilter.
ReplyDeleteTotal newbie-novice and haven't even done my first quilt yet; still building the courage to try. Pretty sure my first will be an adventure; planning to machine quilt with the easiest pattern I can find.

I prefer to free-motion quilt my quilts on my domestic machine. On my most recent finish, I managed to fmq the whole thing without a single straight stitch. I was a little nervous and worried about puckering on the back since there wasn't any preliminary stitching to hold things down, but it came perfectly. Whew! I have put in an order to Santa for a longarm machine, but so far he hasn't heard me.
ReplyDeleteYum, i am looking forward to seeing your progress on the NY Beauty! Love that block you've got started.
